First Things First

Please go to the boards and ask one relevant question about the novel. Is there a section that isn't clear to you? Or just one you're wondering about, like what's up with Utterson? Explain what makes you ask this question, which is to say why did this question form in your head?

Make sure you reply to at least two peers.

Holy %@$#! Look at all of these research papers I have to grade! This is nuts! I wish I had some sort of magic potion I could drink that would transform me into some seriously crazed grading freak!

As for you, I bet you're glad that's done, and now all you have left is a short essay for Jekyll and Hyde and a revision of the research paper, and you're through.

For Jekyll and Hyde, think about how the popular perception of Hyde is that he's Jekyll's opposite. Is this true? Is this something that the characters in the novel want to believe is true? Are there any other characters in the novel who drink a potion of sorts and change? The metaphor is pretty wide open for interpretation, isn't it. Just drink something, and you act differently. Interesting.

You have a short essay on Jekyll and Hyde that will be due by May 6. It'll be just like your first short essay: 500 word minimum, 75 minutes. Details to follow.

Re-read pages 57-9 in Jekyll and Hyde. For those of you who don't have the "official" text, head to "Henry Jekyll's Full Statement…" and re-read the from the paragraph that begins "There was no mirror…" to the paragraph the begins "The pleasures I have made haste."

Please go to the discussion boards and for one of the paragraphs . . .

    1. Create a one sentence summary
    2. Indicate what you think the most important or interesting idea is
    3. Present the most important or interesting quote
    4. Explain why it's important or interesting
    5. Ask a relevant question

Also, make sure that you reply to two peers, and try an answer their questions.
